Long-term resident - EU
Long-term residents are individuals with an electronic identity card issued by another European Union member state bearing the statement "Long-term resident - EU", sometimes "Long-term resident - EC" or an equivalent statement in another language of the European Union. This is an evidence of a residence obtained based on European Directive 2003/109/EC of the European Union Council of 25 November 2003 concerning the status of third-country nationals who are long-term residents.
In order to consider granting such a residence, the regulations set out that, among the workers available on the labour market, it must be impossible to find a job seeker capable of satisfactorily and within a reasonable time frame, even with appropriate professional training, filling the planned position. Some jobs, listed on the shortage occupation list published annually by the minister are directly concerned.
The proposed employment must also comply with the laws and regulations applicable in Belgium and the collective labour agreements, particularly in terms of remuneration. The guaranteed average monthly minimum income (RMMMG) must be reached, regardless of the working arrangements. This minimum income is set by the Collective Labour Agreement 43 of the National Labour Council.
The permit is issued for a maximum period of 12 months and can be renewed.
