What do you need to do to submit a renewal application?
Type B and fix-termi single permits can be extended if
- the employment contract is extended
- the worker is on a permanent contract.
As an employer, you must then request a renewal. Of course, the worker must also always have the right to reside in Belgium.
Please note, certain positions are limited in duration: one year for trainees, six months for specialist technicians, and five months for seasonal workers.
After several renewals and under certain conditions, the worker can obtain an unlimited work permit. In this case, it is the worker who must submit the application.
When should the application for the renewal be made?
You must submit a renewal application:
- No earlier than two months and no later than one month before the expiration of the current type-B permit;
- No earlier than four months and no later than two months before the expiration of the current fixed-term permit.
Single permit : how can I submit a renewal application?
The renewal application must be submitted online through the one-stop shop, just as with the initial application.
The following forms must be entered:
- The application form; this is automatically generated on the one-stop portal when the initial application is submitted.
- A copy of the worker's valid passport;
- A copy of the employer's or the employer's representative's identification document;
- Depending on the worker's category, a copy of the duly completed, dated, and signed employment contract. If the regulations do not require an employment contract, proof that the person in question has sufficient means to live on;
- Proof that the worker has health insurance covering all risks in Belgium for themselves and their family members (see Article 61/25-2, §1, paragraph 2, 6° of the Law of 15 December 1980, on access to the territory, residence, settlement, and removal of foreign nationals);
- A photocopy of the payslips or payroll statements for the entire period covered by the work permit that is about to expire, or a copy of the individual statement.
- in the case of a secondment: proof of registration in the LIMOSA register.
As for the other documents that must be attached depending on the worker's category, they are not required if they have remained unchanged since they were submitted as part of the initial application.
The Public Service of Wallonia will check whether the regulations, employment conditions and terms of the employment contract have been respected during the previous period of employment.
